A few weeks ago, we learned about time. The standard for our firsties is only to tell time to the hour, but we did half hour as well. Most of them caught on pretty quick. :) To give the children more hands on practice, they each made their own clocks. We do have real clocks for each child to use, but I think having them make their own gives them a better understanding of time. Plus it's fun, right?
This is a copy of a copy that I got from who knows where. The 15, 30, and 45 aren't there. I'm not sure if that was a mistake or on purpose. I kind of like having them missing, because then the kids can decorate those ones their own and make them stand out more. That might make teaching quarter past and quarter to a little easier. Maybe in the summer I'll make a better version, but for now, this works for me!
I have lots of time manipulatives/games we used to practice time, but by far their favorite was Rachelle's Time Flies and Stop the Clock. I can't remember what blog I saw this on, but I LOVE it! And more importantly, the kids LOVE it. :)
