I spent my Thanksgiving Break catching up on sleep and creating a new packet!  We are starting our graphing unit on Monday and I wanted some better resources to use.  I didn't find a whole lot out in the tpt/pinterest/old school teacher books world, so I figured I'd make my own.  :)

Thanksgiving Fun!

We had the BEST TIME this week learning all about Thanksgiving!  I discovered this AMAZING Thanksgiving Unit by Stephanie from Falling Into First.  It is FULL of information, nonfiction text, comprehension questions, and fun activities!  We didn't get to finish it all this week, so we will do some quick catching up on Monday.  :)

Here's a few pictures of some of our activities.

We made suitcases and wrote about what we would bring with us aboard the Mayflower.

We wrote all the problems the Pilgrims had on their journey, and posted them on Plymouth Rock.

Then we wrote a solution to some of their problems.
*She may have mixed up Massachusetts and England*

We read all about Squanto and made "Squanto's Snack"!

It was a blast!  I already can't wait for next year to do it again.  :)

Five For Friday

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for a quick round of

In case you missed this post, I posted all the materials I use in our class data folders on tpt as a freebie!  I love using these, and my kiddos love to see their progress!

We read The Lonely Scarecrow this week.  Then, we made our own scarecrows.  We also wrote narratives describing what our scarecrow would spend his time in the field doing.  Some dreamed about playing football, watching tv, shopping with friends, and going swimming!  It was an AWESOME writing activity.  I'll post more pictures of those when they are finished.

After months of waiting for it to go on sale, I finally bought this #2 sign from Hobby Lobby for half off!  Now this wall is complete!

The Second Grade performed a skit today at the assembly.  We recited a Thanksgiving poem, sang a Thanksgiving song, and told several facts about Thanksgiving.  It was super cute!
I even had the pleasure of singing the national anthem at the beginning of the assembly.  One of my "groupies" snapped this lovely picture!

And finally... after a loooong rainy day with inside recess, I am ready to spend the weekend curled up on the couch with my new favorite guilty pleasures!!!

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Take Me Back Tuesday!

I'm linking up with Hope King for a little bit of:

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I thought I would share one of my favorite Thanksgiving math games.  I used it with basic addition with my firsties, but can see it modified to upper grades as well (double digit addition/subtraction, multiplication, place value...)

Original post from November 25, 2011!
(Holy smokes!  That's a looooong time ago!!!)

I found this little gem via pinterest.
I thought it would be a fun, yet educational, game to play right before Thanksgiving.
And we had a G.R.E.A.T time!

They roll two dice.  Whatever the answer is, that is what they add to their "turkey".  I used a cookie for the body, m&ms for the feathers, chocolate chips for the eyes, and pretzels for the feet.  Once they got the eyes, feet, and three of each color, they won!

It's the little things....

How much do you love my new blog design??????

I am so over-the-moon happy with how it all turned out!

I've been wanting a custom blog design for a while now, and have been perusing different designers.  I wanted mine to be updated, functional, unique, cute, and match my personality.

As I was searching, I came across:

I loved what she had done for my friend, Ashley's blog

And as I checked out the rest of her portfolio, I knew she was the one for me!

She was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. to work with!  She always responded quickly to my non-stop, ridiculous-at-times-questions.  She did everything I wanted and more!

Oh, and the BEST part is...  she's super affordable!  :)

My favorite little details are:
-the yellow circle that appears when you hover over the navigation bar
-how my social media links are all together, and fill in with color when you hover over them
-the fonts!
-the custom Strickland Gillian quote
-the swirly post divider
-my custom signature
-my new button!

The Sharpened Pencil

Go check her out!
And let me know what you think of my new blog!  :)
